Both the Obstetric and Gynecologic Services at NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medicine have a Day Team and a Night Team. The night float team is scheduled Sunday to Friday morning. The majority of rotations, about 80%, occur at NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medicine with the remaining 20% at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital.
We are in compliance with the New York State regulations regarding residents' work hours. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and continuing education in accordance with requirements of The New York Heart Association, Inc. is required. Residents must complete these certification courses before starting residency. Courses are available at Cornell free of charge and can be arranged through our Residency Coordinator.
Our interns and residents fine-tune their surgical skills in our Skills Acquisition and Innovation Laboratory (SAIL) facility, a state-of-the-art simulation center that houses stations for surgical skills including hysteroscopic, laparoscopic, and robotic modules. These sessions are level specific and administered by faculty from all specialties throughout the four years.
PGY -1
In the first year, we aim to develop a strong foundation in the core areas, including Labor and Delivery and Gynecology. Interns will have the opportunity to develop basic obstetric ultrasound skills, as part of the Triage/Postpartum/Ultrasound rotation.
